Interview With A Black Woman Stylist
What image do you have when someone talks about African and Diaspora fashion? The vast majority of people imagine colours, prints and ruffles. Invariably and sadly, everything we think about an entire continent is ruled by schism. We envision a whole continent as exotic, miserable and that "needs our charity". We forget how plurality is possible. When I met the brand of ANGELA BRITO, from Cape Verdean Angela Brito, I thought: that's what I was looking for!
Through a sophisticated and minimalist design, full of cut and at the same time discreet, Angela Brito shows her identity, honours its origins and with this shows that there is an incredible job being done by black women - and has not received the deserved distinction still. When I saw Angela's work, I thought that her dresses, overalls, skirts, colours and even the aesthetic form that presents her work are inspiring.
Every people has an identity. Identity is the union of several aspects, including the way of dressing and embellishing the body. In Africa, fabrics, ornaments and body paintings reflect the cultural variety of its population and form the basis around which sub-groups identify.
For the sake of clarity, we will define traditional African clothes as the costumes worn by the natives of the continent. African clothing styles have clandestinely been influencing contemporary fashion for a long time, a detail that undoubtedly calls this to attention is the use of clothes or Cangas that wrap around the bodies of women. These Cangas are African clothes whose fabrics, patterns and finishes have won the world.

There is always an attraction to moving around from place to place and changing scenes repeatedly during the course of one's life. It refreshes your mind and soul, cliche I know. I probably sound like a broken record, I remember the time I went to Rome for a holiday. It was a reluctant holiday, I was too busy and stressed with work. I thought this would be a waste of my time. But as time went on, my brain felt like it had been rebooted! Everything suddenly felt possible again. I had been worried about my creativity waning and my memory reducing. It turns out all I needed was some time to relax and destress.
Exploring new locales and experiencing new things is the essence of life. If you can do this, you are definitely blessed. People travel with different goals in mind. Some travel because they are passionate about seeing more of the world; some travel in pursuit of breaking the monotony of daily life and some of them travel just to find an escape from the circumstances of their lives, if only momentarily. Whatever the reason is, travelling is beneficial on so many levels. It has the power to transform an individual. It can change your perspective towards life and make you a better and more polished person. Need a few reasons for travelling around the globe? Here you go:
Once a song's out there, it's no longer mine. And that's the whole purpose of music: to belong to people.
