Starting out as a Mail Order company run from the basement of Jane’s home in Chelsea and with the late Princess of Wales as one of her most devoted fans, the business quickly grew and the first store in Fulham opened in 1991 with a second store in prestigious Sloane Street following later in 1997.

French Sole still use their original French factory partners, but also now proudly have their own Spanish factory manufacturing all Jane’s unique designs using only the finest and best quality Italian and Spanish skins, leathers and materials sourced by French Sole from the very best tanneries in Europe.

The company now supplies over five hundred outlets, stores and concessions globally and is preparing to open two new stores in London with a further six stores planned for early next year. Selfridges, House of Fraser, Shoe Studio, Top Shop, Bentalls and John Lewis are just a handful of the famous retail names now stocking these gorgeous little shoes. The French Sole Mail Order company, currently stocks around thirty thousand pairs of shoes and are based in large warehouses and offices on the prestigious Lambs Farm Business Park in Reading, Berkshire and currently employ twenty two people sending shoes to every country in the world.

An “Out of Town” store opened in Weybridge last year which has become a Mecca for all the ladies who lunch in Surrey and also based in Weybridge at The Quadrant Office complex is the French Sole design studio and IT offices employing a further six people to design, control and update the website.

French Sole “ name brand”ballerinas have become trend setting award winners, with accolades and prizes from all the major magazines. Voted by Glamour magazine The Best Ballet Flats and by Vogue magazine “The prettiest ballet flats around”.

French Sole Ltd hold fully registered trademarks in the following countries: United Kingdom, The EEC Community, Japan, Singapore, The United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Lebanon, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Korea, Canada and Australia.

Trend setting and award winning French Sole flat footwear and ballerina style shoes continue to expand with every successful year and are now recognized globally as a true “Fashion Classic” originally created back in 1989 by Jane Winkworth who is now semi-retired from the day to day running of the company, but continues to design all the shoes, advertising, packaging, concept visuals and provides all the original artwork for this website and for many other companies for whom she designs.
